I'll tell you what; I couldn't get to sleep the night I watched this to save my life.
This movie is done in the Point of View style similar to The Blair Witch Project, Cloverfield, or Rec/Quarantine. I love that style, so I loved Paranormal Activity.
The horror genre this movie fits into is Dread. You know things are bad and you know they're gonna get worse, but you're never quite ready for when it does. The scary stuff just hits you and then moves on, building up to the next bit of awful in the next scene.
Watch it in your bedroom, in the dark. No distractions.
When I was younger I always slept next to the wall because I didn't want to get sucked through the middle of my bed like Johnny Depp did and didn't want the Critters to get me from the edge of the bed either.
I can't watch movies in bed because then I fall asleep. I will watch it downstairs with my feet on the couch. And my eyes covered with a blanket. Is it really THAT scary????
For some reason I can't get behind the scary movie thing anymore. I feel I have enough scary stuff to worry about. Why would I enjoy artificially creating more stress and terror for myself for a fictional story? Call me a party pooper but I'm just not into that anymore. I'll take a good revenge flick any day!

And don't let your feet dangle off the bed.
